An Attitude of Prayer

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

I have this friend who I used to think was nice, but a little nutty. She prayed about everything. From what to fix for dinner to the old "Lord show me you will today." I would think why does it matter if I pray about how to set the table for a dinner party? Over time as I watch her have joy and peace in some of the hardest circumstances I came to realize that her constant communication with God over every part of her life was the key. I was not so much that she prayed over each and everything. It was that she was in communication with God almost every moment of every day.

I found myself praying more and more. I would pray when I got in the car. I would thank the Lord for just the parking spot He provided. I would pray about the menu. I found myself being in more and more communication with God. It was not that I needed to pray about how to set the table for a dinner party. It was that I needed to pray. To be ready, willing, and able to reach out to God at a moments notice for whatever reason.

I went into one of the hardest years of my life this past year with this growing attitude of prayer. It has not been an easy year, but it was one of the most wonderful years we have had. The past few month though have not been as wonderful. Somewhere I lost that attitude of prayer. Everyday became harder and harder to get through. When I am trying to do things on my own I want to withdraw. However when I am working, walking, and talking with the Lord on a constant bases then I love to reach out.

Oh how I wish that a 100 percent of the time I was in that attitude of prayer. As I reach again for that goal then oh the better things will be. It takes oh so much more than morning prayers. If I am going to reach my life's goal of 1 Corinthians 10:31 then I must be in constant communication with my Creator, the King of Kings.

Raye Ann,

This seems to be the theme for today as most of the blogs I have stopped at this morning are finding the same message. That in order to serve others we must spend some time serving God, spending time in His word daily, and praying constantly and consistently. Only then with our relationship improve and the blessings will pour forth in our life.

HEY! Thanks for joining me my dear. I still have yet to grow a true heart for prayer, but I know this year has been the most growth in that area and I am thankful for your post to remind me of that.

I "followed" you and cannot wait to "get to know you" more.

In Christ,
Carolyn

Hello Raye Ann,
I'm glad we connected on Facebook. I came to check out your blog as we have some common friends. I think I'm going to love it. This post was perfect for me as I'm now going through a very difficult season. I pray every day but need to have that attitude of prayer all day and in all circumstances. Thank you for this very timely reminder.

Blessings,
Debbie
